So, a long time ago, I asked the question of people which they thought was worse, rape or murder. To let people know, I believe rape is worse, and I just thought of something which helps my point of view.... video games.
In many mature rated video games now, especially RPG styled, one is freely able to murder innocent civilians. Brutally killing these people and then loot their corpses. And often, the murder is quite graphic or rewarding in one way or another. However, in no console game. to my knowledge, is one allowed to commit rape.
You can have sex with a spouse, or a prostitute, be it heterosexual or homosexual depending on the game. So sex is allowed in some games, but not rape. Now, sex is still rarer then killing and murder in games, but it does exist. Their is even at least one game in which you can sell people into slavery. Contract assassination isn't uncommon either in games. However, no one allows the hero (or villain for some RPGs) to commit rape.
I am taking this as evidence that raping someone is more of a crime then murder. So, thusly, the punishment for rape should at least equal the punishment for murder. However, this is only my opinion, but please feel free to debate it or point out flaws in my argument. |
